About Impact

Welcome to IMPACT!  IMPACT is the youth ministry of First United Methodist Church located in Salem, VA.  We exist to help students encounter Jesus, grow together, and make an IMPACT on their world.  We are here to help you connect with Jesus, with friends, and with the local church. We offer a rich program of activities and events for students to deepen their faith, form relationships with other Christian teens and adults, and serve the church and community.  Please check out our Programs Page and Events Calendar for more information on the many ways you can get involved and make an IMPACT!

Youth Director - Dale Foster

About Dale

Dale grew up in Salem and was baptized and raised right here at FUMC.  Dale graduated from Bridgewater College in Virginia where he earned his degree in Business Administration and Religion.  Dale has served on a number of ministries throughout the valley serving teenagers, college students and young adults.  Dale started as a youth counselor at FUMC in 1997 and joined the staff as a part-time Youth Director in 2003.  Dale enjoys spending time with his wife Laura and 3 children, AnnElese, Calvin, and Benjamin.  He also enjoys running, playing the guitar and watching any of the Bourne movies.  His ministry verse is 1 Corinthians 2: 1-5 and attributes his passion for youth ministry to his youth leaders when he was in high school.  As it turned out, Dale married into the family of his high school youth leaders.

Youth & Handbell Choirs - Heather Mitchell

About Heather

Heather also grew up in Salem and is a lifelong member of FUMC.  She was baptized and married here, and finds working at her home church a very rewarding experience.  Heather graduated from Hollins College with a B.A. in music and a voice concentration.  She also received her teaching certification in Choral K-12.  Following in her parents' footsteps, Heather joined the FUMC music staff in 2000.  Heather and her husband, Matt, have 3 children; Claire, Natalie, and Mason.  And she loves that her children are growing up in her home church.  In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family, singing, playing the piano, reading, and riding rollercoasters.
